The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

Someone sent this to me and I wanted to share it with you. It is from someone named Brant Hansen and was from his 2019 FaceBook page. “Mangers are odd little things. They’re feeding troughs, of course. In ancient Israel, they were made of stone. They’re not super-comfortable, but you know what? In a pinch, they can be kind of protective. That’s why experts -priests who lived near Bethlehem, near a hill known for raising sacrificial lambs- would put lambs…

Great Reminder

Great Reminder

Last Sunday at Colonial Presbyterian Church,  Overland Park Campus, the congregation enjoyed a play by the youth choirs about Daniel in the Lion’s Den. There were many good messages throughout, but one in particular stood out to me. There is no god greater than the One who shut the lion’s mouths and who joined Daniel’s three friends in the firey furnace and even kept them from smelling of smoke when they came out unharmed. He hasn’t changed. He’s still the…

A New Journal

A New Journal

This week at church we were given journals to record God’s blessings, the way He moves, and the way He uses us to be the Light of Christ to those around us. Journaling serves many purposes. It reminds us how God intervenes in our lives, how He caused circumstances to allow us to bless others, and to not forget the instances of those blessings. I’ve journaled for years, but this journal will be for the specific ways Jesus has operated…

God’s Face

God’s Face

Hebrews 1:3 describes Jesus as: He is the radiance of His (God’s) glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, Several years ago after contemplating that scripture I wrote this poem. Jesus is God . . . with a face; come to earth to show us His grace. Creator, Sovereign, Sacrifice; the Only way to…

The Supreme Judge

The Supreme Judge

I don’t pretend to know the truth in the Kavanaugh case, but I know the One who does. The Judge of the whole earth. All I can do is pray for His truth to come forth; for evil to fail and right prevail. A few days ago I received an instant message from a praying friend that asked me to pray Psalm 40 for Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Several phrases jumped out at me as I prayed through that Psalm. For…

Jesus the Concrete Contractor

Jesus the Concrete Contractor

A month ago I set an appointment with Jesus,  a concrete contractor, to come on Thursday this past week. Before 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday I received a text that he was coming with his crew between eight and eight-thirty that day! I flew into full panic mode to clean out the last few items left in the garage so they could begin demolition on the garage floor. My son, Josh and I then moved on to the patio to remove the…

Discouragement’s Cure

Discouragement’s Cure

Recently I had an opportunity to visit Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO for a wedding. Through a front gate, along a winding road, then a scenic ride on a shuttle, brought us to the site of the wedding. At the end of a long underground walkway we emerged to see this magnificent site set in a reflecting pool overlooking Table Rock. To the left of The End of the Trail sculpture sat…

This Year’s Calendar

This Year’s Calendar

It’s funny how calendars run some years. This year of 2018 is no exception. On Valentine’s Day we also have Ash Wednesday. This is the beginning of Lent–a time of self-reflection and repentance. A time to re-commit our lives and living to Jesus, the one who knows us best and loves us most. Easter falls on April 1–April Fool’s Day. I’m sure unbelievers watching the events of those few days some 2,000 years ago were sure Jesus’ followers were fools,…

The Rock

The Rock

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Another way of saying the above scripture is: The living God, the ever-existing One is my security and my stronghold; my place of escape and safety, my God. I put my confident hope in Him. He is my shield from harm. His strength will deliver me and…
