Weddings

With June being the most popular for weddings I thought I’d share with you a recent event. As an ordained chaplain, it’s my pleasure to officiate at weddings.

This particular bride wanted “unconventional vows.” I looked high and low online. Every one didn’t fit the bill. Some were downright ridiculous.

I finally gave up and said, “I can write something better than these.” And I did. They are scriptural, yet simple. This is what a wrote.

I (groom’s name), take you, (bride’s name), as my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward in sickness and in health, in plenty and in want. I declare that with God’s help and sustaining power I will love you and grow with you until death parts us. I will love you and cherish you as Jesus loves the church and gave Himself for her. I give you this ring as a token and pledge of my intent to fulfill these vows with God’s help.

I (bride’s name), take you, (groom’s name), as my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold from this day forward in sickness and in health, in plenty and in want. With God’s help I will honor and cherish you until death parts us.

Prayer:

Father God, fuse (groom’s name) and (bride’s name) together into Your three-fold cord. May their home be a place of rest for the weary, a little picture of heaven on earth. Keep them and protect them as they grow together in You. May they know the joy You intended for them as they walk out their lives together. May they keep their eyes on You all the days of their lives, and at last hear You say, “Well done, good and faithful servants.”

Did you use conventional wedding vows for your wedding?
