Many times I hear people say, “You can’t know the time of Jesus’ return.”
As I studied 1 Thessalonians recently, I can across an interesting scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5 which reads:
“Now as to the times (chronos-and era) and the epochs (kiros-definite space in time), you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, ‘Peace and safety!’ then destruction will come upon them suddenly like birth pangs upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
“But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night or darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.”
Notice that here, Paul is talking to brethren–those who are brothers in Christ. Those “God has not destined for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus’ return will not surprise brethren (believers) like a thief in the night. We will have discerned the times and epochs. We believers know what to watch for because God told us in Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13 and Zechariah 14.
What has happened in the United Nations recently with President Obama’s help should make our antenna go up and put our eyes on the sky because that’s where Jesus is coming from.
