New Testament Readers

New Testament Readers

Someone told me of a conversation they had at a garage sale. The person said, “We only read and study the New Testament at our church.”

When I heard that, I was reminded of a house I saw on the news recently. It sat on the edge of the river. They suffered heavy rains. The earth under the home gave way and the whole house slid into the swollen river and floated away.

I then saw another picture in my mind. A person hopped on one foot. They had two legs, but only used one. They couldn’t walk or run.

To ignore the foundation of the Old Testament is to build your faith without a foundation. When hard times come like a relentless rain, your faith will be swept away like that house in Yellowstone. To only hop when you should be able to run, either from danger or to charge into battle, renders you a useless soldier in the Lord’s army.

Embrace the whole word of God in order to be a useful instrument in God’s hands.

“All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (II Timothy 3:16).

  1. Good analogies–especially regarding the foundation. Plus the things Jesus said in the New Testament do not make clear sense without understanding the OT passages He referred to in His sermons and parables.
