I was amazed at two things. One, the amount of territory the filmmakers covered in just ten hours, and two, what they chose to leave out. For those familiar with the Bible, we anticipated what the succeeding scene might be after the next commercial.
For instance, at Jesus’ baptism, I fully expected God’s voice to come out of heaven and hear, “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased” (Matt. 3:17). Instead, they went straight to Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness.
When Jesus neared His crucifixion, the editors completely skipped Matthew’s account of the transfiguration when Jesus takes Peter, James, and John to a high mountain. God spoke out of a bright cloud and said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!” This account is found in Matthew 17:1-8.
I know they had a lot of territory to cover, but why leave out these accounts? It seems to me, Father God should have some dialogue in the portrayal of His Son, since it is HIS story.
