Close But No Cigar

Close But No Cigar

This past Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, I drove out of my way home to Kansas City, for 577 miles from St. Simon’s Island, Georgia to Cape Henry, Virginia, in order to read Rev. Robert Hunt’s declaration that he made before stepping on this land for the first time on April 29, 1607. By the time I arrived at 5:30 p.m., the little hut pictured above, was closed. Id’ missed the last tour by an hour and a half.  In the…

What A Difference A Day Makes

What A Difference A Day Makes

On ordinary days, one day melts into another. Then, in a 24 hour period, the world dumps up-side-down. This picture showed up on my computer from seven years ago the other day. This was a colt that had been born the summer before. Life was in the normal mode. Then things flipped. On the next St. Patrick’s Day the PET scans showed my husband had stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. That horrible disease and spread all through him. Within six…

Only 56 Days!

Only 56 Days!

Everywhere you turn, you hear of frozen pipes, cars in ditches from icy roads, and caution to get your animals inside from the frigid cold this winter. With all this in mind, I wrote a poem called Winter Blech. Winter Blech! Bare trees. All gone dormant.Plants reside in the basement, under grow lights. Bee hives are securedfor the winterwith mouse guardsat the entrance. Time to settle infor the long wait’til we see Jonquils again. As of today, January 23, 2024, Spring is…

Funny Snowman

Funny Snowman

Now that Christmas is past, the gifts have been opened, and the decorations have disappeared, it’s time to pay the piper. I found this picture on Facebook with the caption, “This snowman is to scare away the bills.”  If it works, we better pray for snow! A Charcutier Tree

A Charcutier Tree

This Christmas I made a charcuterie tree for a centerpiece. I bought a Styrofoam cone and  covered it with plastic wrap. I gathered three kinds of cheese, red peppers, pickled okra, sliced red pears and apples, and rolled up ham with cream cheese and dill pickle relish inside. I stuck each bite on the Styrofoam with party toothpicks. I intended to put black and green olives on it, but forgot them. The star on top is from the red pepper. It…
