A Serendipitous Meeting
This past week our mailperson delivered the entire street’s mail one house off. I got my western neighbor’s mail and my eastern neighbor received mine.
When I finished canning my peach harvest for the year, I heard a knock at the door. I was delighted to see my neighbor to the east with my mail in her hand. I invited her in for a chat. They moved in 2 1/2 years ago, just as Covid hit. They both work at home, seldom go outside, and live behind a tall fence. This makes neighboring rather difficult.
We enjoyed a delightful visit. I learned they went to the filming of The Chosen this summer in Texas for the Feeding of the 5,000 scene. She told me about 12,000 people showed up for that filming. They had to bring their own costumes and it lasted three days. She thinks this episode will possibly appear sometime before Christmas. I’ll be looking for their faces in the crowds!
I think it’s about time for me to get busy and have a neighborhood gathering so the new folks can meet the old folks and become a cohesive neighborhood again.

We are best friends with our southern and south-eastern neighbors. We have none to the east (435 highway frontage) and don’t know the western ones (2 acres away), but we’ve known the northern ones for decades. They like to keep to themselves. We’re good friends with the northern neighbor-neighbors (2 doors down), however. Friendship takes some effort! 🙂
Yes. There are only three full time up on the ridge, including us. We look after each other. Very blessed in that respect.

Hi! I thought I would interject another serendipitous meeting. My name is Cheri Brown and I was a student of yours about 10 years ago. That long ago? Wow! How time flies. Anyway, I am retired from my job now and writing full time (when I am not doing farm chores or teaching classes for my grandson’s homeschool group). I have written 2 novels, a book of short stories, a “how to” book for our homeschool group, a children’s book, and am currently working on a graphic novel. When I sought God for how I could find time to do my art (I have won several art contests since retiring too) and write, the answer was graphic novels. And, of course, I have so many ideas…! I like to hear from my students so I thought you might too. You have my email and I read yours, marveling at many of your posts. Hope you are well and still teaching. Oh, and 15 years ago I had no neighbors. Now, I have 7 within a mile radius and yes, I know them all (for better or worse). Ha!
