Loving Through Tough Times

Loving Through Tough Times

Over a year and a half ago, Ardythe Kolb and I decided to write a 365 day devotional. We have been friends and sisters in Christ for over 40 years. We divided the project this way: I sent Ardythe the scripture and the ending prayer, then she wrote the devotional and sent it back to me. I formatted it and in November 2012 we published it. Near the end of the year I helped her write some of the devotionals….

God’s Mysterious Ways

God’s Mysterious Ways

I got the call from a fellow chaplain in Texas as I settled into a seat at my writer’s group last Friday. “Could you please make a call on Mr. Bennett’s* grandmother in Paola, Kansas?” “Sure,” I said. “But it will be a while. I’m over an hour away.” “That’s all right. Just so you see her by this afternoon. According to the nursing home personnel, she’s suffering from heart failure. They’ve called in hospice.” “Will do.” “Mr. Bennett is…

Tornado Taming

Tornado Taming

As a young mother, I remember looking out my basement window watching a tornado snake across the sky a few miles south-west of us. At the time, I didn’t know about the power of the name of Jesus. As I watched, the white tail turned black as it picked up debris from a school and a church in the suburban Kansas City neighborhood. Years later, I learned as a believer in Jesus Christ, He had given me and all His…

Pride and Its Consequences

Pride and Its Consequences

This week as I listened for the Lord’s direction for the blog I heard the word pride. That attitude is the opposite of humility. Last week I mentioned II Chronicles 7:14 which instructs us to humble ourselves before God in order for Him to heal us. I checked out the 55 times the word pride appears in the New American Standard Bible to see what God had to say about pride. There is the pride of power which brings God’s…

God’s Chastening

God’s Chastening

None of us like to think of God chastening us. No correction is ever pleasant. There is one consolation. The Bible says in Hebrews 12: 6 “For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.” Then in verse 10 He gives us the reason for that discipline, . . . “that we may share in His holiness.” God’s word is true Truth. Romans 3:4 says “. . . let God be found true,…

New Miracle Book?

New Miracle Book?

I’m considering a fourth God’s Little Miracle Book. The other three each have 27 true inspirational stories of how God intervened in the lives of every-day people. Do you have a story I might write for this fourth book? If so, please contact me through my website at www.SallyJadlow.com for consideration.

God’s Promises

God’s Promises

Most of us have heard of God’s promises. We used to have a little box of scripture promises on the kitchen table. I’d pull one out each morning. Now I read them from my Bible and my devotional book. I’ve discovered many more than the ones in the little box. God is true to what He says He will do. Most have conditions like, “If you’ll to this, I’ll do that.” The closer I look, the more specific His promises…

His Story

His Story

The last scene has closed on the epic series “The Bible” on the History channel. In five weeks we’ve gone from Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, to the apostle John’s beholding Jesus in Revelation. I was amazed at two things. One, the amount of territory the filmmakers covered in just ten hours, and two, what they chose to leave out. For those familiar with the Bible, we anticipated what the succeeding scene might be after the next…

Are You In or Out?

Are You In or Out?

My niece called the other day with this question. “Aunt Sally, what is our heritage?” “Yours is mostly English. Why?” “Well, maybe that’s not what I want to know. I mean what’s my ethnicity?” “White bread, honey. White bread. Our ethnicity doesn’t really make a difference. We’re all descended from Adam and Eve, ultimately.” As I thought about it later, what I said to her was true. We’re all a part of God’s creation. But not all of us are…

Candlelight Vigil for an Elk

Candlelight Vigil for an Elk

Is the world going nuts, or is it just me? On the news the other morning they reported that several hundred people gathered for a candlelight vigil on January 6, 2013 in Boulder, Colorado for an elk shot by an off-duty police officer. Reportedly the officer saw the elk limping and thought it was injured. The officer is now on leave. The people interviewed were crying over the loss of “Big Boy.” One tearful little girl who held a candle…
