Beware of the Buggers

Beware of the Buggers

Unfortunately, the Christmas season brings out scammers that have been hiding under rocks the whole year through. Daily I get emails informing me that, “Someone has just charged $149 to my credit card account. I you didn’t make this charge, call this number immediately!” I go check my account online and it reveals the only charges there are my own.

My phone rings to ask for donations to some charity I’ve never heard of or contributed to.

Within the last month I got an instant message supposedly from an acquaintance asking me to go to the store immediately and buy a gift card and send them the numbers off the card. I texted him back that he had tangled with the wrong person because I was an agent from the highest power and we had just marked him for “special handling.”

The other day I got a call from some number I hadn’t blocked yet. The conversation went something like this.

“May I speak to Mr. Earl Jadlow?”

“Earl is dead.”

He stammered around a bit and then said, “Oh, I’m sorry for your loss. Is this Mrs. Jadlow?”

“Yes.”

After some more fumbling he said, “When did he die?”

“Twenty-eighteen.”

After a short pause he said, “By any chance, did he sign up for a lottery?”

At that point I hit the “Block” button and hung up.

I Peter 5:8 cautions us, Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Merry Christmas everyone!
