A Strange New Day

A Strange New Day

When I learned to sew over fifty-five years ago I never dreamed I would ever sew face masks. I’ve sewn dresses, coats, men’s pants and shirts and drapes, but never any medical equipment.

The first call came a couple of weeks ago from my grandson asking for masks for the company where he works.

“How many do you want?”

“Forty.”

So I set to work. The quarter inch elastic is as scarce as hen’s teeth. After I ran out I asked a couple of neighbors if they had any. They came up with enough elastic for thirty. From there I made my own string ties.

The other night I learned on TV the masks are even more safe if you put a paper towel inside to keep the moisture of your breath away from the mask.

Last weekend I got a call from a neighbor asking me to make some for her. I guess this is going to be the new fashion statement for 2020!

Are you going to wear a mask?

My newest book, The Road Home, an account of my husband’s lung cancer and God’s faithfulness to widows, is now available in paperback and eReader on Amazon.com. Hard Times in the Heartland and all my books are available here.

  1. Good for you! You are helping a lot of people. May we all continue to pray for COVID-19 to stop! And God bless all those affected by it in anynway.
