The Squirrels Are Winning

Sometime back I published a blog about the squirrels eating the garden around the patio. Summer has come and gone–but in spite of my son’s excellent trapping, we seem to have more of those pesky buggers than before. Now they’ve taken to eating the pumpkin a friend gave me. I had intended to make it into pies, but they got there first. They don’t even flinch when I’m around. They just keep chewing. So much for a fresh pumpkin pie!…

Strawberry Saga

  Below is a poem I wrote about my attempt to grow strawberries. Do you have a similar tale? Strawberry Saga Ordered strawberry plants last year. Planted all thirty-six with care. Three survived. Covered them with straw before winter descended. Thrilled when leaves poked through in early spring. Blossoms emerged on old plants in abundance. Planted additional sets for next year’s bounty. Carefully surrounded them with chicken wire to protect from rabbits. Installed an electric fence to ward off squirrels….
