Redemption
Isaiah 59:21
“And as for Me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord; “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”
Even in Isaiah’s time long before Christ, God promised His Holy Spirit and His word to those who would receive and believe in His Redeemer. That word “redeemer” means, “To recover possession or ownership of, by a payment of a price.”
Even if we had possession of all the world’s goods, we would still not have enough to pay God for our sinfulness. Even if we spent every day doing good deeds, that wouldn’t save us. That’s how offensive our sin is to God.
There is only one thing that satisfies God’s requirement. That is the sinless blood of God’s own Son shed on our behalf. That is the only thing valuable enough to buy us back from Satan’s slave market. We are powerless to save ourselves.
Father God, thank You for Your overwhelming pity extended to us.
Who are we that You would allow Your own Son
to suffer what He did for our redemption?
