A Charcutier Tree

A Charcutier Tree

This Christmas I made a charcuterie tree for a centerpiece. I bought a Styrofoam cone and  covered it with plastic wrap. I gathered three kinds of cheese, red peppers, pickled okra, sliced red pears and apples, and rolled up ham with cream cheese and dill pickle relish inside. I stuck each bite on the Styrofoam with party toothpicks. I intended to put black and green olives on it, but forgot them. The star on top is from the red pepper. It…

Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons

Until this week we could have sworn we were still in summer. Then we had a frost warning. The weatherman cautioned us to cover our tender plants. We had to switch the air conditioning and 90 degree days to turning on the furnace. How quickly times change! In a few days we’ll have to drag the dolly from the garage and perform the arduous task of moving the plants from the patio to the basement. They will stay there until…

Fresh Revelation

Fresh Revelation

God Gave us some commands for us to live by. They are commonly called the Ten Commandments. They are recorded for us in Exodus 20: 2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21. The very first one is “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” That’s because only He is worthy of our worship. In our society today, it is considered very desirable to have objects in our homes that represent other gods–like Buddhas. When I thought about it, that goes against what…

Traveler’s Feast

Traveler’s Feast

Recently, grandson Sam, visited Egypt and Tanzania where he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. While there, he texted his mom and asked, “Do you think it would be rude, if when I got back we invited ourselves to Grandma’s house for pot roast?” I think he was ready for some good ole’ down home cooking! The day after he got home we gathered to feast on pot roast with carrots and potatoes, asparagus, fresh zucchini from the garden, and kale salad. Oh,…

Meet Clem

Meet Clem

Clem the Clematis is going great guns this spring. I sent this picture to a friend who puts scriptures on pictures. (I haven’t mastered that yet.) She sent my photo back to me after her magic. Now, even after Clem has finished blooming I can enjoy his splendor.  Do you name your plants? Clem got his official name because I can never remember it.   My books are available at https://www.amazon.com/stores/Sally-Jadlow/author/B007F5H0H4

Amaryllis

Amaryllis

Usually Amaryllis bloom at Easter. This year I didn’t get them out of the basement in time. Now they are going full blast. I think they look like little trumpets–as if to shout, “He (Jesus) is risen! He is risen indeed!” What flowers do you have chomping at the bit to be seen?   My books are available at https://www.amazon.com/stores/Sally-Jadlow/author/B007F5H0H4

The Tradition Carries On

The Tradition Carries On

Years ago, my husband, Vic, made this train for the kids to ride. He constructed it out of large plastic barrels. Each rider has their own steering wheel, although they consistently follow the car in front.  This 4th of July we drug it out of the barn for a new generation to enjoy. I’m so grateful for a fresh round of twigs on our family tree to experience something made with love so long ago. I’m just sad he’s not…
