A Common Dilemma
Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
God sends us His word, and for the most part, we tend to leave our Bibles on the shelf. Unread. Collecting dust. How can we obey His word if we don’t even know what He says? What His conditions are.
How can we seek Him if we don’t know Him? How can we know Him if we don’t read His love letter to us?
Forty years ago, I realized I called myself a Christian, but hadn’t read His book. I determined to read through the word of God, even if it killed me . . . and I was sure it might.
What I found as I read, were a bunch of scriptures I’d never heard of, although I’d spent every Sunday of my life in church. I discovered scriptures that talked about Jesus baptizing us in the Holy Spirit in Luke 11:11-13. Other passages talked about Jesus coming again in Matthew 24 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
The more I read, the more convinced I was that the Bible is relevant for today. That Jesus intended for those who follow Him in this modern time, to see the same things happen as in Bible times. The Holy Spirit’s power is here for us today as it was then.
We have a choice. Read His word and learn of Him, or ignore Him to our own peril.
