God’s Wings
Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
This scripture, when examined deeply is so full of encouragement. He promises to put a hedge or fence about us. To shut us in. To overshadow us.
The word “wings” here means “the uttermost part of a garment, a hem, fringe, edge, border of a skirt or shirt.” When the lady touched the hem of Jesus’ garment (Matthew 9:21), in essence, she was saying “Your are the God in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:2).
God’s truth is described as a shield and bulwark. The meaning of a bulwark is “a wall of earth or other material built for defense, a rampart. Protection against external danger, injury, or annoyance. Any person or thing giving strong support or encouragement in time of need, danger, or doubt.”
Jesus is exactly that. He will draw near to us when we draw near Him (James 4:8). He promises to protect, support, and encourage us in our time of need, whether that is physical, mental, or spiritual danger.
Lord God, my God, thank You for Your ever-present help
at all times, in every circumstance.
May Your name be ever on my lips.
