Fear vs. Faith
Deuteronomy 1:29
“Then I (Moses) said to you, ‘Do not be shocked, or fear them.’”
When Moses was about to die, he recounted the events he and the Israelites shared together in the desert. Today’s passage comes from that recollection.
When the Israelites neared the land that God had promised them long before they left Egypt, they sent twelve spies to check out the territory. When the spies saw the Anakim, the giants that lived there, ten came back terrified. The other two, Joshua and Caleb, believed God and were ready to take the land.
God reassured the people through Moses with today’s scripture. The people didn’t believe God. They let their fear rule instead of their faith. They put their eyes on the giants instead of Almighty God and His promise.
This cost them dearly—forty years in the desert. During that time, all the adults died before reaching the promised land with the exception of Joshua and Caleb.
When God speaks, we need to listen and obey, no matter what the circumstances look like.
Lord Jesus, when giants appear
whisper Your word in my ear.
May I obey what You say
and not my fear.

Great prayer & not just because it’s poetry, but because it’s so accurate.
The Bible is a very good prayer book.
