Brotherly Love
Philippians 1:9
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment.
Here Paul prays for those in Philippi and for us as well. He asks that as we grow older in Christ Jesus, our brotherly love, goodwill, and benevolence will grow. As Christ reigns supreme in our hearts, our goodwill and affection need to multiply and excel to overflowing.
As our knowledge increases, it will become more precise and correct in both ethical and divine things. With the increasing knowledge from Jesus, we discover a heightened perception of our senses and intellect. We experience greater moral and ethical discernment as we mature in Christ.
Have we begun to experience that growth? Have we noticed we love people we never loved before? If not, ask for it. God is ready and willing to give liberally to all who ask. Matthew 7:11 says, “ . . . how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”
Father God, grant us Your abounding love
that we may operate in real knowledge
and discernment in ethical and divine matters
growing to maturity in Christ Jesus.
