Yummy Yogurt
I like yogurt, but don’t like the high price so I decided to make my own. It’s not hard. You might want to give it a try.
You’ll need:
8 cups of whole or 2% milk
1/2 cup of commercial yogurt that says “live cultures” on the label. That’s all the ingredients you’ll need.
Heat the milk in a Dutch oven. Heat it over medium heat to 200 degrees. Stir the milk gently so the milk doesn’t burn.
Cool the milk to 112-115 degrees. Stir occasionally to prevent a skim on top.
While the milk cools, heat the oven to about 150 degrees and turn it off.
Take a cup of yogurt with the live cultures and whisk it with about a cup of the cooled milk in a bowl. Then whisk that mixture into the milk in the Dutch oven. Place the lid on the pot.
Wrap the Dutch oven in a bath towel and place it in the slightly warmed oven. Turn the oven light on and close the door.
Leave it alone until the next day. Then dish it into a closed container and store it in the refrigerator.
When you are ready to eat a portion I sometimes flavor it with instant Jello pudding if I want a different taste.

Sally, I used to make yogurt all the time. I had a special “yogurt maker” with 6 containers. I poured the yogurt starter + milk into the containers, set it on “go,” and it was ready in the morning. It had a nice flavor, and I don’t believe I added any sugar. I must have eaten one a day, which lasted nearly a week.
Sure is cheaper to make it at home, isn’t it?
