The Return

The Return

Have you heard of the day of prayer that is planned for September 26? It’s called “The Return.” People from all over the nation plan to gather on the Mall in Washington D.C. Since that might not be a wise thing to do in these uncertain times of Covid, they are also going to broadcast the day for people to gather in their homes to join together in seeking God for our nation and world. This particular date is…

Great Reminder

Great Reminder

Last Sunday at Colonial Presbyterian Church,  Overland Park Campus, the congregation enjoyed a play by the youth choirs about Daniel in the Lion’s Den. There were many good messages throughout, but one in particular stood out to me. There is no god greater than the One who shut the lion’s mouths and who joined Daniel’s three friends in the firey furnace and even kept them from smelling of smoke when they came out unharmed. He hasn’t changed. He’s still the…

Sowing and Reaping

Sowing and Reaping

The day after we were married over fifty-five years ago, the Supreme Court of this land handed down the edict that prayer was no longer allowed in schools. In January 1973, just forty-five years ago, that same court made abortion legal. According to the Center for Disease and Control, at the end of 2013, there have been 51,888,303 abortions reported to that department since 1970. The Bible tells us in Hosea 8:7 that if you sow the wind, you’ll…

How to Pray Scripture

How to Pray Scripture

On the National Day of Prayer in the first part of May, as I drove I heard someone on the radio praying for the nation from II Chronicles 7:14 which says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” As I drove, I quoted the scripture with the speaker and was…

Praying for our Government

Praying for our Government

I Timothy 2: 1-2 says, “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” Paul urges us to pray for those in authority as a first priority. How many times have we glossed over that part? But what should we pray? According to Psalm 110:11,…

Fasting

Fasting

Matthew 6:16-18 (Jesus said)“And whenever you fast do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance in order to be seen fasting by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face so that you may not be seen fasting by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will…

Jesus, Our Need-Meeter

Jesus, Our Need-Meeter

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. In the Greek, this scripture not only refers to the healing of individuals. It also includes healing of nations and involves restored favor. Do you know any person or nation that is brokenhearted (is a wreck; is crushed or ruptured)? Some come to mind immediately. They need more than a bandage and a couple of aspirin. They need a major overhaul. No amount of human effort is going to…

Healing for Our Nation

Healing for Our Nation

Jeremiah 33:6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, I will heal them; I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth. Jeremiah received this word from the Lord while he was being held in the court of the guard. He told the king they would be hauled off to Babylon. The king didn’t want to hear it so he threw Jeremiah in jail. God promises to bring healing and restoration, health and a sound mind….

Jesus’ Return

Jesus’ Return

Jesus’ Return Galatians 1:4 “Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father.” As the day of Jesus’ appearing in the sky draws nearer, we see a more definable difference in those who truly have Jesus as their Lord, and those who don’t. For those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus, there is special protection in this scripture even in…

Your Purpose Today

Your Purpose Today

This past weekend I attended the Heart of America Christian Writers Network Conference here in Kansas City. One of the activities we enjoyed was a drama by Karen Morerod. She portrayed Queen Esther from the Bible from the book of the same name. Queen Esther saved her Jewish people from annihilation. Her uncle told her God placed her in the palace “for such a time as this.” I wonder if each of us are aware we too, are placed by…
