Jesus, Conquering Hero

Jesus, Conquering Hero

Jesus
Colossians 2:15
When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

Most of us know the Easter story, but fewer know the scope of what Jesus accomplished for us in those terrible hours. Jesus removed our sin (John 1:29 and Hebrews 9:26). He removed God’s wrath from us (Hebrews 2:17). He reconciled us to God (Romans chapters 10 and 11). When Jesus was whipped He purchased our healing (I Peter 2:24). He made the way for the Holy Spirit to come (John 16:7).

He also defeated the power of Satan. Now Satan could no longer beat believers over the head with the threat of unforgiven sin because Jesus took our sins on the cross once for all (Colossians 2:13-14 and Romans 6:10). He stood in our place and endured the punishment we deserved (Galatians 2:20 and Isaiah 53:5-6). He declared it done when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30).

I rejoice in You, my Savior,
who endured the shame and pain.
Who took the punishment I deserved
even when I was far from You
and one glorious day
bid me come.
