A Couple of Great Websites

A Couple of Great Websites

Photo by Poppy Thomas Hill There are a couple of great websites I follow every day. The first is GiveHim15.com from Dutch Sheets for prayer strategies for our nation and world. He is a great source of encouragement. The second is a newer list to me. It’s elijahlist.com. A recent post, “This Month, Push Into Him for Miracles” by Jamie Rohrbauch was an excellent one. In the article she gives some very practical suggestions for seeing God move in your…

Hold Fast

Hold Fast

A couple of weeks ago the phrase “hold fast” kept coming to me.  It came in the daytime and even in the middle of the night. Finally, I got up at 3:00 a.m. to see where it appeared in the Bible. The first instance was Hebrews 3:6 which reads, “but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.” The…

No Fear

No Fear

In these uncertain times, a scripture keeps coming to mind. It reads: “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not look anxiously about you for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with my righteous right hand,” Isaiah 41:10. When I awoke the other morning, I got the idea to type multiple copies of that scripture on a sheet and cut them to make little love notes…

Great Reminder

Great Reminder

Last Sunday at Colonial Presbyterian Church,  Overland Park Campus, the congregation enjoyed a play by the youth choirs about Daniel in the Lion’s Den. There were many good messages throughout, but one in particular stood out to me. There is no god greater than the One who shut the lion’s mouths and who joined Daniel’s three friends in the firey furnace and even kept them from smelling of smoke when they came out unharmed. He hasn’t changed. He’s still the…

Allergy Solutions

Allergy Solutions

When our son, Joshua, was small, we were puzzled by several bizarre behaviors. For no reason, he’d let loose with high-pitched screams. Once taught, he couldn’t retain the information. His handwriting was illegible. Before kindergarten the school district gave him an IQ test. That test registered him with a 53. All these factors landed him in special ed classes. Through a series of events, and a consult with a Dr. Doris Rapp, M.D., we began to suspect he was…

A Word of Encouragement

A Word of Encouragement

As a writer, do you ever despair, wondering if anyone will ever read your work? You never know who or when those words you so diligently planned, typed and edited will ever be seen. This past month Neoma Foreman a writing friend of mine who lives in Walker, MO, sent me a page from a 1950 cookbook from her town’s Baptist Church. Neoma’s daughter-in-law recently bought the book in an auction and gave it to her. Although I wondered why…

Discouragement’s Cure

Discouragement’s Cure

Recently I had an opportunity to visit Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge on Table Rock Lake near Branson, MO for a wedding. Through a front gate, along a winding road, then a scenic ride on a shuttle, brought us to the site of the wedding. At the end of a long underground walkway we emerged to see this magnificent site set in a reflecting pool overlooking Table Rock. To the left of The End of the Trail sculpture sat…

Another Poem From the Dark Valley

Another Poem From the Dark Valley

Since it’s still April and the Poem a Day challenge is going on, I’ll post another poem I’ve written this month. In the prompt given we were to add a word to “weary.” Battle Weary came to mine immediately. Battle Weary Fall into bed, exhausted after a day at rehab as I’ve watched husband struggle to regain strength. Scruffy four-day beard, wasting body of skin and bones, peek from covers as he falls into deep, drug-induced sleep. His valiant effort…

A Birthday Present

A Birthday Present

OLD GLORY Look to me and remember well the days gone by and those who fell, giving their lives for freedom’s sake knowing their sacrifice was no mistake. Look to me and remember the present. Pray for each and every resident who lives in this great land of ours that by God’s grace we’ll be empowered. Look to me; remember those yet to come who’ll stand in our stead and march to the drum 0f a land established for God’s…

Do Not Fear

Do Not Fear

Isaiah 41:13 For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.” Have you ever been faced with a seemingly impossible task? You wonder how this could possibly turn out for the good. As far as you’re concerned you are standing at the bottom of Mt. Everest with the assigned task of climbing to the top in a week. You have no training. No equipment. No possibility…
