Small Beginnings

Small Beginnings

I reminisced recently with a friend. She recalled times in our little prayer group of almost forty years ago.

She said, “I remember you used to come to prayer meeting and sing simple songs to poems you had written. And now, you’re writing whole books.”

I nodded. It is amazing what God can do with a willing heart and hands given to Him. I didn’t start out to write books. I just wrote what I heard the Holy Spirit whisper. I filled one spiral notebook which turned into two, then four. Now there are boxes full, and a computer with a myriad of files.

Someone once said you’re not ready to write a book until you’ve written 20,000 hours. Over these last forty years, I imagine I’ve fulfilled that requirement and then some. But even if I’ve written 40,000 hours without being yielded to the Lord, for me, the effort would all be for nothing.

Isaiah 64:4 says: “For from days of old they have not heard or perceived by ear, not has the eye seen a God besides You, who acts in behalf of the one who waits for Him” (NASB).

I wonder what the Lord will do in the next years of my life if He doesn’t return first?
