How to Pray Scripture

How to Pray Scripture

On the National Day of Prayer in the first part of May, as I drove I heard someone on the radio praying for the nation from II Chronicles 7:14 which says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

As I drove, I quoted the scripture with the speaker and was surprised when they left off half way through the scripture dealing with our wicked ways and God’s response if we will do our part.

In order to enjoy God’s blessings, we have to DO what He requires, before we see Him move on our behalf. How can we fulfill His requirements if the person speaking doesn’t tell us what God says to do?

It’s a little like someone giving us a treasure map and says, “X marks the spot.” When we look at it, half the map is torn away. We need to hear and do the whole truth in order to receive the treasure.

In my quiet time this morning, I was drawn to Ezra 9:6-15 and Daniel 9:4-19. Both are powerful prayers because they give a powerful pattern of how to pray for God’s intervention. Click the blue words to be taken to those scriptures.

What do you think? Have you seen God intervene as a result of prayer?

When in High Waves

When in High Waves

Jesus walking on water

Matthew 14:27
But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Jesus directed His disciples to row across the Sea of Galilee at sundown while He stayed behind to pray. After they had rowed for many hours in contrary winds they were worn ragged. Between three and six in the morning, they saw something coming toward them and were terrified. They thought it was a ghost. Jesus called to them to take courage; that it was only He and not to be afraid.

Aren’t we the same? When adverse circumstances beat on us like waves against our small boat, do we feel as though God has forgotten us? That we will never make it through to the other side? That we will go down to the depths alone?

Jesus is waiting for us to notice Him there, near us—as close as the whisper of His name. He hasn’t forgotten us. He is only waiting for our desperate cry.

Lord Jesus, Lord of land and sea
and all that is in them,
I call to You, my Lord,
my Savior. Help me!
Deliver me! Save me
lest I sink in these deep waters.

Judgment Day

Judgment Day

beconing Jesus

I Timothy 2:4
(God) who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God desires all humans to be preserved from danger, injury, and peril. He wants to keep us safe and sound, and restore us to health. That’s what saving means. He wants everyone to enjoy Him and His is protective care. He wants to deliver us from His final judgment.

Some people doubt there is a real judgment day. Jesus talked about that day in Matthew chapter 24. Revelation 6:16 says “and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;’”

Not everyone is going to accept His offer of life forever with Him in heaven. Some believe God is dead. Others believe He has no interest in our every-day lives. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

If you’re reading this you’re still breathing, it’s not too late. I urge you to bow before Almighty God and ask Him to cleanse you of your sins. He will welcome you with open arms.

Almighty God, who desires all people to come to Him,
I bow before You today.
Help me to know the truth about Jesus,
so I may be kept in safety on that day when Messiah Jesus
judges those who are not His.

Jesus Power

Jesus Power

Jesus & paralytic

Matthew 9:6
(Jesus said) “But in order that you may know that the son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic—“Rise, take up your bed, and go home.”

The religious leaders of the day scoffed at Jesus when he told a paralytic his sins were forgiven. Jesus knew their unspoken evil thoughts against Him.

He asked those leaders which was easier to say, “Your sins are forgiven,” or to say, “Get up and walk.” Jesus had the power to do both because God the Father had given Him that authority over all the works of the devil.

To prove what he said was valid, Jesus told the paralyzed man to get up from his pallet, take it with him, and go home. This left no doubt about Jesus’ authority.

Before Jesus left earth, He bestowed His authority on those who believed in Him and those who would believe in Him in the future (John 17:18, 20).

As believers, we have this privilege, this power, through the Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus, I pray to use Your authority
to glorify Your name and Your Father’s name.
To You alone be the glory, praise and honor
forever and ever. Amen.

God’s Child

God’s Child

Colossians 1:13
For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.

Before Jesus, we were under the power of Satan. We were bound to submit to his authority over us—whether we wanted to or not.

When Jesus arose from His grave, it was the undeniable evidence that He defeated sin and death for all time. He extended this mercy to any who would yield their life to Him.

When we yield to Jesus, He removes us from Satan’s iron-clad grip and installs us as citizens of His kingdom with all its rights and privileges. He tells us He has seated us with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). We will reign with Him (II Timothy 2:12, Revelation 20:6).

That transfer of citizenship is immediate. We don’t have to wait until we die. From that moment on, our lives are never the same. We are no longer His creation. We are now God’s own children (John 1:12).

Father God, we rejoice that we are now Your children.
We now have citizenship in Your kingdom
and ready access to Your presence.
Thank You for Your overwhelming lovingkindness
toward us giving us the gift of faith
to believe what You say is true.

God’s Gift

God’s Gift

Jesus Hisotry Channel

I Peter 2:24
And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness, for by His wounds you were healed.

Jesus took the punishment for our wrongdoing that we might share in the inheritance of God. That we might walk blameless before Him. That we might be healed of the infirmities we experience in our bodies—our mind, soul and spirit.

He came to heal that which is broken. He came in order to be fastened to a cross so that we could be released from that which binds us to wrong thoughts, words, and actions.

He came to bleed and die for us that we might be welcomed into God’s own family as His own sons and daughters.
Jesus death and resurrection is a gift to us. It does no good until we receive it.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your obedience
to hang on the cross for me.
Through Your sacrifice I am set free
from wrong actions, thoughts, and deeds.
One day may I hear You say, “Not guilty.”

Jesus, Our Need-Meeter

Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

In the Greek, this scripture not only refers to the healing of individuals. It also includes healing of nations and involves restored favor. Do you know any person or nation that is brokenhearted (is a wreck; is crushed or ruptured)?

Some come to mind immediately. They need more than a bandage and a couple of aspirin. They need a major overhaul. No amount of human effort is going to bring healing to these wounds.

Only Jesus, the All-Powerful God, can restore, heal, bind up, these gaping injuries and sorrows. He is Jesus the Great Physician. He’s waiting for us to ask. Will you?

Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth,
come in and bind up these wounds.
Set the crooked straight.
Heal the unhealable.
These situations are beyond our help;
only You are our Healer, our Deliverer,
our Hope.
We stand to see You, Jesus,
bring the healing we so desire.

Don’t be Afraid

Don’t be Afraid

tumblr_marqnc5Y7V1qf4u8lo1_500

Mark 5:36
But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.”

A synagogue official sought Jesus for healing. His daughter lay dying. On the way to the official’s house, a messenger arrived with the awful news.
“Your daughter has died. Why trouble the Teacher anymore?” (Mark 5:35)
Jesus turns to the father and says the scripture for today.
The word “afraid” here is , “to put to flight by terrifying (to scare away).”
Jesus’ instructs the father “don’t be afraid.” In other words, “Don’t run away. Only believe.” In other words, “Trust me. Put your confidence in Me. I’m able.”
Jesus healed the little girl. Hear Jesus say to you, “Do not be afraid. Only believe.”

Lord Jesus, steady me.
I choose to trust You
to bring Your good will
to me and my situation.
Thank You for hearing
and answering my prayer.

Need Help?

Need Help?

need help

Hebrews 13:6
. . . so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What shall men do to me?”

When we lose sight of the fact that we are the Lord’s and He is ours, we tend to become afraid. We think we have to provide for our need or our protection. We have the mistaken idea we will suffer lack, or that someone may do us harm. We tell ourselves we have to work harder in order to accumulate more.
This only tends to move us farther from God. This kind of thinking becomes burdensome. Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30). Let Him be in charge.
God is our helper in all things at all times in all circumstances, no matter what we face. Nothing happens to us apart from His notice. If He allows it, He has a purpose for it. It’s up to us to seek Him for why He permitted a certain thing.

My Lord, my Master,
thank You that You neither slumber nor sleep.
I rest in the fact You will supply all my needs
according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

God’s Prescription for Healing

God’s Prescription for Healing

Jesus the Healer
With Ebola banging on our door it might be a wise thing to search God’s word, the Bible, for His prescription for our healing. He has a prescription for all our needs whether it be physical, mental, or emotional healing. Here is a page from my new book Looking Deeper.

Exodus 15:26
And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”

In order to enjoy God’s divine health, we must do four things:
Give heed to God’s voice (hear and obey)
Do what is right (pleasing in His sight)
Give ear (listen) to His commandments
Keep all His statutes (His prescribed limits, boundaries, laws and conditions).
God lists some of the diseases of Egypt in Deuteronomy 28:27 which are, “boils, tumors, scab, and itch, from which you cannot be healed.”
But there is hope. Jesus has come to heal us. Perhaps as a nation and individuals, we need to repent to see His healing. As long as we’re still breathing, God’s mercy extends to us. Let us call upon Him now.

Father, forgive us.
We have listened to the world and obeyed its voice instead of You.
We have gone our own way and failed miserably.
We have written our own rules and fallen far short of Your desires.
We have run rough-shod over Your boundaries
and neglected Your conditions.
In Your mercy, please cleanse and heal us as individuals
and as a nation, so we might enjoy Your favor once again.
