Burdens and Knuckleballs

Burdens and Knuckleballs

Knuckleball

Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

When God calls us to cast our burdens on Him, it’s not a little toss of a ball. “Cast” means “to hurl, fling.” I see this word cast as a top-notch pitcher throwing his fastest knuckleball. God’s attention is riveted on us, ready to catch anything that is a burden to us.

We aren’t to hold on to one tiny detail of this burden. Our hands are off. We don’t’ have to try to fix the fix we’re in, or help God solve it.

If we’ve cast our burden-ball, He’s caught it. That’s that. That’s how thoroughly we’re to let go. Now it’s His problem.

Listen for His instruction; then be ready to act on what He says.

Father God, help me remember who
the All-powerful One is,
and act accordingly.
May I be faithful to cast my burdens
on You, so I may see You act
and give You the glory.
